Raymond Dusté We are sad to announce the passing of Raymond Dusté on Thursday, April 4, 2013. This dear friend, colleague and mentor enriched lives for 94 years, sharp and active until near the end. Having survived the great depression, World War II, Tabuteau, teaching, and over 60 years with Forrests we thought he was indestructible. His artistry on the oboe, oboe d'amore and English horn at the San Francisco Symphony & Opera, Carmel Bach Festival, San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, his own Bach to Mozart, and numerous other groups brought a smile to all who heard him. Ray was of inestimable help to everyone, always full of ideas, always open to new ideas, and always generous with his time and considerable knowledge. He was also very kind; if he thought you were wrong he would say so, but always pleasantly. We had many spirited discussions, but the only arguments I can remember were over whose turn it was to pay for lunch; he always tried to claim it was his turn. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. |
