What are all these types of cane?
Tube? Gouged? What is all this?
Bassoon cane comes in a variety of stages of preparation. The less prepared the more control you have over the process,
but the more equipment and training you need. Most people start reed making with gouged, shaped & profiled cane.
As you become more experienced you will want to start shaping and profiling your own cane so you have more control over the results.
After the reed making bug has really bitten you, you'll want to start at the beginning of the process and gouge your own cane.

Which brand should I buy?
Cane is a natural product, so it varies considerably depending on where it's grown and how it's dried and stored.
Which brand you prefer is purely a matter of taste, the only way to choose is to try various types and decide
which you like best.
