Florian Bramböck: Afro-Latin Bassoon Duets Previously published for flutes, clarinets or saxophones, Florian Brambock's Afro-Latin Duets are now available for a pair of that most agile of woodwind instruments, the bassoon. This is a collection of Florian's arrangements of traditional pieces from this musical genre as well as some of his own compositions that perfectly capture the style. Why should the smaller woodwind instruments have all the fun? The bassoon is more than capable of playing lighter music and players of early to advanced standards will enjoy letting their hair down at the same time as learning the exciting rhythms that go to make up these colorful sounds. Great fun for two bassoons in Afro-Latin styles, these duets will be terrific educational material for teachers and students of the bassoon.

Jenni Brandon: Compostela for Solo Bassoon NEW ITEM! This work was commissioned by Eric Van der Veer Varner. This piece tells the story of the pilgrimage along The Camino Frances. It is the most popular of the pilgrimage routes through Spain that lead to Santiago de Compostela which is the church where the bones of St James the Apostle are said to be buried. The title touches on both the ethereal and the physical of this pilgrimage. The bassoon narrates what we may see and hear, how we may feel, and what we discover about ourselves as we take this journey.

Jenni Brandon: Going to the Sun Snapshots from Glacier National Park Oboe and Bassoon Duet - Individual parts plus score included. This piece explores the beauty of Glacier National Park in Montana. It was commissioned by Jennifer Gookin Cavanaugh with the support of a grant from the Provost's Office at the University of Montana and Elizabeth Ball Crawford with the support of the Great Falls Symphony Orchestra. It was premiered at the IDRS Society conference in Columbus, Georgia in 2016. The work is in one movement broken into several sections. The oboe and bassoon are great story telling instruments lending their voices and character to each of these sections painting the landscape with texture, range and song. While the vastness and beauty is too big to capture in any work of music, it is the composer's hope that the listener can travel this road with us through this natural wonder and remember the importance of supporting our National Parks.

Jenni Brandon: An Orange Tree for Bassoon and Contra This music is inspired by the poem "Hay un naranjo ahi" by Alfonso Quijada Urias and its translation "There's an Orange Tree Out There" by Darwin J Flakoll. There is hope in this work as it explores and honors a story of remembrance of the immigrant experience and the ability to start a new life in a new land. Using the unique colors of the bassoon and contrabassoon, there is a conversation between these two instruments as they explore how an ornge tree "out there, behind that old abandoned garden wall" reminds us of an orange tree planted in a distant land before coming to this new place.

Jenni Brandon: The Sequoia Trio For Oboe, Clarinet and Bassoon
The composer writes
I had returned from a trip to Sequoia National Park in July of 2008 and was inspired by the great trees. I knew that these would be the basis for the new work, and in searching for a voice of these great trees I turned to the words of John Muir for inspiration. Each movement of The Sequoia Trio (oboe, clarinet, bassoon sheet music) takes a quote about Sequoia trees from John Muir's book The Yosemite and uses it to inspire the music. The opening waving pattern creates the gentle breeze as the growth of the tree starts in the bassoon, moving through the clarinet and is carried all the way to the top of the tree through the oboe. Movement two is sassy and jazzy, describing the kind of resilient attitude that young trees must maintain in order to survive. "The Three Graces" plays on the idea of the three instruments in the ensemble and Muir's own reference to Greek mythology. Finally in "The Noble Trees" the instruments play a hymn-like tribute to the largest living things on earth. The two "Tree Interludes" represent the individual voice of a tree and its story. This piece was written during my composer residency with the Vientos Trio during 2008-2009.

Jenni Brandon: The Wildflower Trio for Oboe, Bassoon and Piano The Wilflower Trio was commissioned in 2004 by the College of Fine Arts of the University of Texas at Austin to honor and celebrate the life and environmental work of Lady Bird Johnson. The inspiration for the piece came from a poetry book written by one of Mrs. Johnson's friends, Bette Woolsey Castro. Her book, The Wildflower, was inspired by the opening of Lady Bird's Wildflower Research Center in Austin, Texas and contains a collection of poems about wildflowers and nature.

Mason Cox: Until Next Time For bassoon and piano. A short piece that is a perfect ending to a Bassoon Recital. "In this piece I capture my experience of an undergraduate college degree. The piece is my final way of saying thank you and goodbye to my teachers, friends, and mentors at Arizona State University. Every laugh in the courtyard, brain-exploding lecture, performance at Gammage, and conversation with Dr. Albie Micklich is represented in this piece." - Mason Cox, July 2023. Mason Cox is an emerging artist currently living in Baton Rouge, LA, pursuing his masters degree in bassoon performance under Dr. Nanci Belmont at Louisiana State University. A chamber musician at heart, Mason enjoys playing and composing fun and engaging music, especially those that feature unique or different combinations of instruments, that blends pop music forms and harmony with classical styles.
