Reeds 'n Stuff Bassoon Forming Mandrel The classic forming mandrel. This forming mandrel is 2.3 mm wide at the tip and has a two-part progression towards the back to allow the reed to be gently opened from the inside. Ideal for smaller shapes and those who prefer reeds which are less round in the area of the first two wires.

The tip is 3.2 mm wide, which helps give the reed a larger and rounder throat opening. Ideal for wider shapes and those who prefer a larger inner cavity in the their reeds.
Reeds 'n Stuff Anti-Crack Mandrel Gone are the days of inserting your forming mandrel all the way into the tube for rounding the back end of your reed. The Anti-Crack Mandrel allows you for form only the back of the tube while keeping the throat flat. This prevents cracks from spreading into the blade. This enables you to then gently open the throat of the reed only the desired amount with your forming mandrel of choice.
Reeds 'n Stuff Ejector Ring for Bassoon Mandrel The ejector ring for bassoon reeds is used to easily detach the reed from the mandrel after the wire has been fixed. In addition, by using an ejector ring you avoid twisting the reed when pulling it off the mandrel, which would otherwise lead to undesired blade slippage. Due to it's unique design, the ejector ring can be set to any desired position on the mandrel. The ejector ring fits on all mandrels up to a diameter of 6 mm, and can also be used as a depth stop on our spiral-fluted and diamond-coated reamers.

Several crucial measurements were taken from a host of contra bassoon reeds in the most popular shapes to provide key thicknesses at the back of the reed as well as throughout the tube. The tip of the mandrel is less than 2 mm wide - small enough to fit between the pieces of cane after folding and help open up the tube.
