Why buy your oboe or English horn from Forrests?

We do not offer any instrument for sale until it has gone through a rigorous pre-sale service. We insist on flawless pads, properly installed, and equally flawless tone hole facings. We check the mechanism for proper fit, because even a perfect pad will not seal properly when the keywork has excess play. Then the oboe is adjusted, and the spring tension is regulated for comfortable fingering.  After these procedures have been completed, the play-testing begins; voicing and intonation corrections are made when necessary. Many professional players differ on voicing/tuning preferences. Varying reed styles can also produce differing acoustic results; thus some of the final acoustic adjustments can be made to the individual player's preference.

CRACK WARRANTY - NEW INSTRUMENTS

(applies to instruments purchased after August 1st, 1999) Forrests will repair cracks free of repair charges within one year following purchase from Forrests, for the original non-institutional purchaser. Customer's cost is limited to shipping and insurance charges, if applicable.  This limited warranty is void if crack repairs have been made or attempted by others, and it is not offered to institutional users. (Schools, colleges, military, etc.) If the customer prefers, or the severity of the crack warrants it, the joint will be returned to the manufacture who will, at their discretion, either repair or replace the joint. Longer lead times may be expected as well as substantially higher shipping and insurance charges, since international express shipment may be required.

F. Lorée

F. Lorée Oboe (model c+3, with 3rd octave key). This oboe is the choice of most professional players in North America, and a requirement for conservatory bound students.

F. Lorée oboes are available in three different bore styles: the standard bore, the AK bore reproduction, and the DM bore, with a somewhat darker "German" sound. The conservatory mechanism includes all trills, left hand F key, as well as forked F resonance and B flat resonance. Most American players prefer the body to be made of Grenadilla  (Dalbergia Melanoxylon), but other options such as Honduras rosewood (Dalbergia Stevensoni) on standard oboes,  and Violet Wood (Dalbergia Caerensis) on Royal models are also available. F. Lorée oboes may be special ordered with a plastic top joint or with two top joints, one wood and one plastic. For such instruments there is a special case available which can also hold the extra top joint.

F. Lorée Oboe d'Amore (model l+3). This alto voiced oboe in the key of A comes with a 3rd octave  key, which resolves some of the traditional intonation problems of d'amores in general, and greatly improves the overall performance of this member of the oboe family.
For recreational players it combines the enjoyable traits of both oboe and English horn into one; though in terms of established repertory, much of its literature remains still in the realm of Bach and Telemann.

F. Lorée English Horn (model i+3). Since the advent of the low B resonance key along with the third octave key, the "cor" has become the superior orchestral instrument that performers of yesteryear only dared dream of. With even and trouble free intonation throughout its range, this instrument helps performers achieve peak performance. On special order this instrument is available with a plastic top joint.

F. Lorée Bass Oboe (model n). This baritone voiced instrument is pitched one octave below the oboe in key of C. In the orchestra or symphonic wind ensemble it is used interchangeably with the Heckelphone.
There is not a lot of literature written for this instrument, so you may want to arrange some of your double reed quartets or quintets to get maximum enjoyment from this instrument. If, however, your orchestra is doing the Planets, and you can't justify the purchase price of the bass oboe, you might consider renting Forrests' bass oboe for a whole lot less.
